World premiere performance in Haslemere
Clive Osgood will perform the world premiere of a new opera on Saturday May 25th & Sunday May 26th at 7:30pm in St Christopher’s Church, Haslemere.
The opera is based on John Gay’s “Beggar’s Opera”. The opera premiered originally in 1728 and was the most popular play of the Eighteenth century. The story satirises politics, poverty and injustice, focusing on the theme of corruption at all levels of society. Imagine That Productions have commissioned the work especially.
Clive has stayed true to the original, and used popular ballads and songs of the period. In addition, he combines these with his own unique soundscape.
Excellent local singers of all ages (trained by Philip O’Brien at the Haslemere Singing Studio) will be performing. Players from the Artington Quartet, conducted by Justin Luke will accompany them.
